Who I Am
Jorge Montijo is a multi-hyphenate creative force — an audio engineer, spirits brand ambassador, and filmmaker whose career spans studios, stages, and distilleries across three decades.
Music found Jorge early. At five years old, Uruguayan folk legend Daniel Viglietti would lull him to sleep with "Duerme negrito." He was acting by elementary school, performing musical theater in junior high, and teaching himself guitar by high school. He went on to study music and education at the University of Puerto Rico — where a passion for sound was already taking deep root.
The turning point came in 1998, when Jorge helped record the debut album of Cultura Profética at 56 Hope Rd — Bob Marley's legendary Kingston home — working alongside Bob and Ziggy Marley's engineers. That experience ignited a lifelong love for the craft of audio engineering. He moved to Los Angeles in 2001 to formalize his training, and hasn't stopped since.
Over a career spanning nearly 30 years, Jorge has mixed movies, television, trailers, music, commercials, and podcasts. Whether behind the console, curating an exceptional pour, or developing a feature film, he brings the same commitment: to create experiences that resonate long after the moment passes.

The Art of the Pour
Jorge's relationship with spirits began in 1992, when he studied bartending and spent years tending bar in the heart of Old San Juan. As his music and engineering careers took off, his professional bar days gave way to a deepening personal passion — first for tequila, then for cocktails broadly, and eventually for an appreciation of all spirits.
Rum became his true obsession. An often overlooked spirit in modern times, rum's diversity of origin, style, and story captivated him. Since 2008 he's attended tastings and classes regularly, and since 2022 he's traveled to five continents — exploring distilleries, stores, educational events, and bars, and speaking with mixologists, distillers, historians, educators, and influencers.
In 2025, Jorge represented E. Leon Jimenez at The Rum Fest LA Pop-up and the San Francisco Rum Fest. In 2026, he served three Puerto Rico rums at the Rum Curious Summit in San Diego, representing the Taste of Rum event. Jorge is an advocate for diversity and transparency — a good listener who respects every palate and loves helping people understand what they choose to consume.
Brand AmbassadorAll that curiosity, travel, and conversation sparked something bigger. Spirit of the World is the untold story of humanity's relationship with alcohol — from pre-settlement neolithic gatherings where fermented drinks brought people together, through the rise of beer and wine, the age of distillation and its entanglement with slavery, to the modern ubiquity of alcohol across every culture on earth.
At its core, the film argues that spirits are not merely a beverage — they are an embodied cultural technology, carrying within them the history, power, and identity of the peoples who made them. Drawing on years of firsthand research across five continents, it is, at its heart, a story about what it means to be human. Spirit of the World is produced by Perfect Pitch Entertainment.
